Police officers recovered a viable firearm from a car they stopped in Birmingham, West Midlands. Two of the three people who fled from the vehicle were caught after a chase, with one man being charged with possession of a firearm.

A man has since been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Shamail Malek, aged 21, has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after being found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. In July 2023, a suspected shotgun was fired from a car occupied by Malek that pulled up outside a wedding venue in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. Malek then got out of the vehicle and fired a revolver six times towards a group of people standing outside. No one was injured. Malek was arrested at home three days later.
