A man allegedly threatened a staff member with a suspected handgun at an off-licence in Wallasey, Merseyside before fleeing with stolen cash. No arrests have yet been reported.

After a homeowner in Matlock, Derbyshire found an injured fox in their garden, the RSPCA discovered the animal “was bleeding from multiple parts of his body from what are thought to be gunshot wounds”. The fox was put down to “end his suffering”.

Police officers raided a property in Leigh, Greater Manchester and seized a large cannabis grow, £6,000 cash and an imitation firearm. Two men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and possession of an imitation firearm.

Christopher Nourse, 45, has been jailed for 30 years after being convicted of attempted murder, while his brother, 42-year-old Colin Nourse, received fourteen years for illegally possessing a firearm. After the brothers confronted members of a gang whom they believed were trying to steal their motorbikes in Greenhithe, Kent, Christopher fired a Glock pistol, hitting one man in the arm. The gun used was found underneath a car parked a few streets away from Christopher's home address, while bullet casings were forensically linked to the brothers. The court heard that the defendants had bought illegal semi-automatic firearms and travelled to America for target practice before the attack.

Vajid Ali, aged 34, has been jailed for seven years and nine months after pleading guilty to possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition for a prohibited firearm. After a metal detectorist discovered a sawn-off shotgun and cartridges buried in woodland in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, forensics linked the items to Ali. Following sentencing, a police spokesperson said, “Ali has tried to downplay his involvement and claimed he was forced to bury the gun, but we have been able to demonstrate his wider involvement in serious organised criminality.”

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that a man and woman, found dead at their farm in Saddington, Leicestershire, died from gunshot wounds. It is believed that the man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. Police confirmed they are not looking for anyone else.

A man was treated in hospital for serious injuries after being shot in the back in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Police believe the shooting was a targeted attack. No arrests have yet been reported.

Greater Manchester Police, Oldham Trading Standards and the RSPCA carried out a joint operation in Chadderton, Greater Manchester, during which they recovered ammunition and a machine thought to be capable of making bullets. Also seized were drugs and eighteen dogs of suspected XL Bully and pit bull breeds. Two men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply, firearms offences and animal cruelty.

Jamie Burrell, aged 27, has been jailed for eleven years after being convicted of possession of a firearm less than 60cm in total length with a barrel less than 30cm, possession of a firearm when prohibited for life, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, possession of ammunition for a firearm when prohibited for life and drug offences. Following an investigation into the supply of Class A drugs from London to Worthing, police officers raided Burrell’s home in Lambeth, South London in October 2023 and recovered a gun, ammunition, cash, approximately 500 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine.
