Following concerns reported by a member of the public, undercover police officers seized eight guns from a stallholder at a market in Tottenham, North London. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. Most of the weapons were not genuine.

Police officers responding to reports of gunfire in Battersea, South London found a man had suffered a gunshot injury. He was treated in hospital, where his condition was described as “not life threatening”.

Cadel Cumberbatch, 23, and Rakesh Jassal, 24, have been jailed for thirteen years and nine years, eight months, respectively, after being found guilty of two firearm discharges and a robbery. In November 2021, the men were seen sitting in cars outside a house in Coventry, West Midlands, sounding the horn. Shots were then fired towards the house, breaking a window. The following day, the offenders fired a shotgun at an outbuilding, in which cannabis was being stored, and at a house. No one was injured in either incident but the pair went on to carjack and seriously injure a man known to them.

Zohirul Haque, aged 39, has been jailed for twelve years after being found guilty of armed robbery. In November 2022, Haque threatened staff with a firearm at a shop in Bethnal Green, East London before fleeing with stolen cash. Haque wore a distinctive suit while carrying out the robbery and, the following day, a police officer spotted him in the same clothes. Neither the firearm nor the money was recovered.

Police officers carrying out a warrant at an industrial unit in Melling, Merseyside recovered stolen motorbikes, two viable self-loading pistols and a Skorpion machine pistol with a quantity of 9mm rounds. The weapons, safely recovered by firearms officers, will be tested to see if they are linked to any crimes.

A man was treated in hospital after being shot in the face with a ball bearing in Fenton, Staffordshire. Police officers arrested a man on suspicion of assault and recovered a BB gun.

A peacock has been put to sleep after being shot several times with an air gun near Market Drayton, Shropshire. After being found in a field, the bird was taken to a wildlife hospital where it was discovered that several pellets had lodged in its legs and body, causing severe damage to muscles and tendons. The RSPCA has opened an investigation, with a spokesperson from the organisation saying, “Anyone caught deliberately using an air gun to injure an animal can face up to five years in prison and or an unlimited fine if found guilty under the Animal Welfare Act.”

Police officers searched a car that was abandoned following a short pursuit in Bradford, West Yorkshire. They recovered a viable stun gun, a hatchet, harvested cannabis plants and several balaclavas from the vehicle. No arrests have yet been reported.

A woman was treated for a puncture wound and swelling after being shot in the neck with a suspected air rifle in a car park in York, Yorkshire. Police have appealed for information.
