A man was confronted by armed police after the collapsible walking stick he was carrying was mistaken for a shotgun by a member of the public in Kesgrave, Suffolk. He had been carrying the stick horizontally at the time.

A family cat is recovering after being shot twice with a pellet gun in Newport, Gwent. He was found behind the garden shed covered in blood. One of the pellets was close to his heart and lungs.

A revolver, a machete and a bank cash machine have been found by police scouring woodland in Stockbridge Village, Merseyside, which is known as a hiding place for guns. The search, which followed a shooting in Croxteth (see below), also uncovered shotgun cartridges and 9mm bullets. The search resulted from information provided by members of the local community.

A woman was robbed at gunpoint at a flat in Horley, Surrey. One of two suspects, both believed to be teenagers, was armed with a long-barrelled gun. A small amount of cash and mobile phones were stolen.

A man described as "fanatical" about firearms made a gun to kill a friend's gravely ill cat who had decided not to use the PDSA. Police officers found the improvised handgun, which had been made by cutting down an air rifle, at the home of Ian Hodson in Netherton, West Midlands, after receiving information that he had acquired a document on the making of an air machine gun. He admitted possessing the prohibited gun and also possessing a quantity of ammunition without a firearms certificate and was jailed for four years.
