The Infer Trust makes every effort to record and categorise the firearms incidents reported in the UK but we recognise that it is not a complete record.

If you are aware of a gun incident which is not listed please notify us.  You can do this by either sending us the link for an on line report, or a hard copy of a press article to our address.

2010/4/22 This is North Devon
A three-year-old boy was hit in the face with a BB gun in Torrington, Devon.  The pellet missed his eye by two centimetres.  The boy was walking in a park with his teenage sister when three boys started firing at them.  One 13-year-old and an 11-year-old were given Youth Restorative Justice Disposals which mean they will have to apologise to their victim and explain their actions.  Another 13-year-old has been given a final warning.  The gun had been bought by a family member.
2010/4/22 Kent News

Peter Mahoney threatened six people with an air pistol in Stone, Kent, before stealing their car in November 2008.  He was linked to the crime by DNA evidence left behind by his dog.  He pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated wounding, possession of a firearm, and robbery and possession of an imitation firearm and was jailed for four years.

2010/4/22 Evening Telegraph (Peterborough)
A quantity of drugs and several firearms, including a shotgun, have been seized during police raids in Northumberland and Newcastle.
2010/4/21 Uxbridge Gazette
Two men have each been charged with one count of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm after a travel agents was robbed in Uxbridge, west London.  One man produced a handgun during the robbery.
2010/4/21 Streatham Guardian
Yayhe Ismail shot a man in the face with a BB gun following a fight as they left a nightclub in Crystal Palace, south London, in August 2009 (see September 2009 Incidents).  His victim was left with a metal pellet embedded in his mouth.  He has been jailed for eight years after pleading guilty to GBH with intent to wound and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.
2010/4/21 Southport Visiter

A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm after an armed police siege in Southport, Merseyside.  A member of the public had reported seeing a man with a gun.  Two men have now been charged with wasting police time.  Police confirmed that no firearm was traced (Southport Visiter, 23 April 2010).

2010/4/21 The Herald (Plymouth)
A 4-year-old boy required surgery after he was shot with an airgun as he and his mother were walking in a park in Stoke, Plymouth.  His mother heard a crack the moment before he fell to the ground screaming.  An X-ray showed a pellet lodged in his leg.  It has since been reported that the boy was not actually shot in the park but that his injury occurred when a loaded air rifle went off when it was dropped on the ground by a teenager, who was shooting at targets, in a courtyard where the 4-year-old was playing with a toy gun.  A decision is still being made in relation to police action regarding wasting police time (The Herald (Plymouth), 26 April 2010).
2010/4/21 Grimsby Telegraph
William Munro, 19, pointed an air pistol at another motorist during a chase along a dual carriageway outside Grimsby, Lincolnshire, in December 2009 after the other man had forced him to brake suddenly.  The weapon was unloaded and he claimed his only intention was to "scare" the other driver.  He admitted possessing an air pistol with intent to cause fear of violence and was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence, a one-year supervision order, 100 hours' unpaid work and must pay prosecution costs.

A student has been accused of robbing at taxi driver at gunpoint in South Shore, Lancashire.  He is also accused of possessing an imitation firearm in the form of a silver handgun.
2010/4/21 Enfield Independent

Six people have been charged with various offences, including supplying drugs, conspiracy to sell a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a handgun following raids at addresses in Enfield, Haringey and Redbridge in north and north east London and in Leeds.  The raids were a culmination of Operation Peyzac aimed at tackling gangs, gun possession and violent crime.  At one address in Haringey a suspected gun conversion factory was discovered (Yorkshire Evening Post, 22 April 2010).  A total of sixteen men, including a 16-year-old have now been charged (Enfield Independent, 22 April 2010).  Nine men were arrested in further raids across Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest (Haringey Independent, 29 April 2010).
