The Infer Trust makes every effort to record and categorise the firearms incidents reported in the UK but we recognise that it is not a complete record.

2013/6/17 East Anglian Daily Times

Two 19-year-old students were arrested for possessing a firearm at their college in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Firearms officers who were deployed to the school were able to locate one of the teenagers, who showed them where the pair had left the air pistol and identified the other student involved.


2013/6/17 The Northern Echo

A .22 snap lock air rifle has been stolen from a garage on a street in High Handenhold, County Durham. Police have appealed for information.


2013/6/17 Liverpool Echo

Police have arrested three men after they recovered cash, suspected cannabis resin and a stun gun during the search of a property in Kirkby, Merseyside. Three men were arrested on suspicion of possessing class B drugs with intent to supply, one of whom was also arrested for suspected possession of the stun gun.

Graham Philip Baker has been fined £1,000 for not securely storing firearms and ammunition and been ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the conditions of his firearm and shotgun certificates at his home in Campsea Ashe, Suffolk. In a search of his property after the 74-year-old reported losing a Stensby 12-bore shotgun, police discovered that his gun cabinet was not secured to the wall; a shotgun had been left leaning on the wall outside the cabinet; the keys were on top of the cabinet and had been used by his wife to access the guns, and Baker had not told police that he had moved house for over a year until he went to the station to report the unexplained loss.

Oguzhan Kaya, 18,  has been jailed for 10 years in a young offenders institution and and Michael Delsignore, 28, has been jailed for seven years for their involvement in an attempted armed robbery of a jewellers in Deal, Kent. The group of six masked men threatened three members of staff with a suspected imitation gun that Kaya claimed was a real sawn-off shotgun, forcing them to lie down while they smashed cabinets and escaped with £3,000 worth of second-hand watches and silver earrings. The pair were arrested after the group were caught because they failed to cover their tracks and Kaya's former girlfriend, Kayleigh Somerville, was also handed a four-month suspended sentence for handling the stolen property.


2013/6/17 The Scotsman

Elliot Jorgensen and Anthony Boyd have been jailed for 12 and 10 years respectively for their roles in an armed robbery of a jewellery store in the centre of Edinburgh. Jorgensen and another man used an axe and an imitation revolver to smash cabinets and threaten employees, dragging one female victim across the premises at gunpoint before escaping with £730,000 worth of rings, watches and necklaces in a robbery that Boyd had helped to plan and prepare. Jorgensen was identified by DNA on a glove that he dropped after the robbery but his accomplice has not yet been identified.


2013/6/16 Daily Mail

A 64-year-old woman has been questioned by police after she claimed she had killed a farmer she was working with in 1976 with his shotgun on his property in Buxton, Derbyshire. She alleged to have recalled shooting him and burying his body on the farm after he raped her when she underwent therapy for nightmares that included hypnosis. Police have not recovered a body in their ongoing searches.


2013/6/16 Mirror

A man has been arrested and detained at a secure mental health facility after allegedly stabbing three people and a police officer whose colleague attempted to taser him at a mosque in Birmingham, West Midlands. Police were called to the scene after reports that the victims had been attacked with a large combat knife during prayers. The taser was fired but was ineffective in controlling him and the assailant stabbed the officer. He and the other men were taken to hospital for treatment of their wounds.


2013/6/16 Bradford Telegraph & Argus

Shots were allegedly fired from a shotgun at a shop in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Police were called to the scene and discovered damage consistent with shotgun pellets. No one was reported to have been injured.


2013/6/16 Manchester Evening News

Michael Wilde has been jailed for six years for possessing an imitation firearm whilst carrying out four robberies in Greater Manchester. He threatened staff at two stores and garage, using a BB gun and a claw hammer to steal £500 and cigarettes worth £1,600 in one incident. He was arrested after an off-duty policeman intervened when Wilde pointed a gun at a worker in a bookmakers and, despite being swung at with the hammer and shot at, called other officers to the scene who detained Wilde by shooting him with a police taser.
