After police officers stopped a car in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, they recovered a Rolex watch, electronic devices and an imitation firearm. A man was subsequently charged with drug offences and encouraging the commission of offences via an encrypted device.

Police officers responding to a report that a man had assaulted a woman known to him, called for armed support after the suspect “acted in an aggressive and threatening manner” towards them at a flat in Snodland, Kent. Officers seized an air weapon from the property and arrested the man on suspicion of offences including assault and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

A man wearing a ski mask allegedly threatened staff with a handgun and a knife at a petrol station in Newmarket, Suffolk before fleeing with cash and cigarettes. Police issued a description of the suspect’s clothing and appealed for information.

The coroner at the inquest into the death of a man on Birkrigg Common, Cumbria in March 2023 has recorded a conclusion of suicide, cause of death being a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man, whose own rifles, shotguns and ammunition had been seized by police following reports of a “significant concern” for his mental health, shot himself with a rifle borrowed from a friend, purportedly to put down a lamb on a farm. He was given CPR by paramedics after the shooting but died later on the way to hospital. The inquest heard that the man had attended an A&E department after his guns were removed, voicing suicidal intentions due to financial concerns and stress.

Police officers recovered drugs and a painted starter pistol after searching two addresses in Tameside, Greater Manchester. A police spokesperson said, “Weapons painted black to appear more realistic may be used in inappropriate or illegal activity.”

James Edge, aged 41, has been handed a suspended eight-month prison term and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. In July 2022, Edge approached a group of teenagers with a gun in Filey Brigg, North Yorkshire. After armed police officers arrested Edge, they recovered an Airsoft gun and an air pistol from his motor home. The two guns were ordered to be forfeited.
