A man allegedly fired an air gun at police officers responding to an unrelated incident in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. No one was injured. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Armed police officers responded following a report of shots fired towards a vehicle in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. No arrests have yet been made.

Mohammed Ali, 39, has been jailed for eighteen years for kidnap, attempted robbery and two counts each of having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and robbery. His co-defendant, 20-year-old Muhamed Juwara, received nine years in a young offenders’ institution after admitting attempted robbery. In September 2022, the two offenders went to a man’s home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire on the pretence of viewing a car for sale. On arrival, Ali pointed an imitation gun at the man and ordered him to put on handcuffs. The pair fled after the man and his partner fought back, leaving behind the handcuffs, duct tape and ball bearings. During the ensuing investigation, Ali was implicated in a similar offence carried out in Cheltenham in July of the same year. On that occasion, he used an imitation gun to threaten a man who was selling a car and forced him to transfer thousands of pounds to him. Once he had received the cash, Ali drove the man to Stafford and let him go. Ali took a photo of the man when he was tied up and this image was later found on his phone.

X-rays revealed that a buzzard, found injured near Layer Marney, Essex in December 2023, had been shot with a shotgun. The bird, whose humerus bone was shattered, is being cared for at a wildlife rescue centre.

Following information received that a gun had been accidentally fired, police officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg at a property in Netherton, Merseyside. The man was treated in hospital and has since refused to co-operate with officers. Detectives have appealed for information.

Following reports of suspicious activity, police officers seized a replica firearm and recovered suspected stolen goods from a flat and caravan in Chelmsford, Essex. Officers also rescued a dog from the premises.

Following a report that a group of males were riding a suspected stolen scrambler bike on a field in St Helens, Merseyside, police officers found they had a gun with them. Of the two men arrested, one has since been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a firearm when prohibited for life. The second man has been bailed pending further enquires.

Police opened an investigation after a car was shot at in Salford, Greater Manchester. It is not known if the vehicle was occupied but no injuries have been reported. There have been no arrests.

An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct has concluded that a police officer, who fatally shot a man in Coventry, West Midlands in January 2019, will not be prosecuted. The man died from a single bullet wound to his chest. The officer concerned faces a charge of gross misconduct over the incident.

Jahmaine Watson, aged 34, has been jailed for seven years and two months after pleading guilty to possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Watson, part of an organised crime group, was arrested after his DNA was recovered from a loaded converted revolver found along with rounds of ammunition during a police raid at a property in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Drugs and a second firearm were also recovered.
