A pensioner from Cathkin, Lanarkshire, shot himself with a shotgun less than a fortnight after a letter from his council warned him that a neighbour had complained about his dog barking. His body had been found in woods near his home in October 2009.

A man armed with gun approached a car in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, and demanded money from the woman driver. She wound up her window and drove away but was left extremely shaken.

Grimsby Telegraph
A gang burst into the home of a man in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, and assaulted him and his family before firing a shotgun in a failed blackmail attempt (see November 2009 Incidents). The shot missed their victim. Earlier in the day one of them had visited the house demanding money. Paul Blake and James Bence were found guilty of possessing a firearm to commit an indictable offence and a separate charge of blackmail and were both jailed for nine years. Stephen Hitchmough pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to endanger a life and blackmail was jailed for 10 years and nine months. A fourth man was found not guilty.

A 14-year-old boy came across four shotguns, a semi-automatic rifle, and around 15,000 bullets wrapped in bin liners while out searching for scrap using a metal detector in Manchester.

An 18-year-old man has been charged after a taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint in Hartlepool. Detectives recovered a ball-bearing gun at the scene.

A man allegedly threatened a cashier at a shop in Eltham, South East London with a gun and demanded he hand over money from the till. The offender then fled the scene with a quantity of cash. No arrests have yet been reported.

A taxi driver was shot at with an airgun pellet as he drove his cab in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. The offside rear window was damaged. Another taxi driver has apparently been fired at (Grimsby Telegraph, 14 September 2010).

A man and a woman found roughly 7,500 machine gun, shotgun and pistol bullets buried in the ponds in the back garden of their rented house in Leeds, West Yorkshire. They discovered a few bullets while weeding the pond after recently moving in, and police unearthed thousands more during a search of the property. The landlord was said to have denied any knowledge of the provenance of the ammunition.
