A cat was killed when its intestines and liver were perforated when he was shot with an air rifle in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. His heartbroken owner has had to pay £370 in vets' bills.

A kitten had to be put down after being shot with a pellet gun and then kicked. She was found on her owner's front lawn in Murdishaw, Cheshire. She had several injuries including a pellet in the neck. Pellets had also been fired at windows in the area.

Two boys aged 16 and 17 have pleaded guilty to a public order offence of putting a person in fear of violence following an incident in which a man was shot with a BB gun as he walked along a street in Connah's Quay, Deeside. The victim saw three youths in a bedroom window. The two offenders were placed on community orders, one for 12 months with 50 hours unpaid work and the other who had previous convictions for 18 months with 100 hours unpaid work. A third youth was cautioned.

A man was arrested in Allesley, West Midlands, after an armed stand-off. The suspect was on parole and had been recalled to prison following an allegation of serious assault. A handgun was recovered at the scene. A man has pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited firearm and two counts of being in possession of ammunition without a licence (see January 2011 Incidents).

A man was shot in the back in the car park of a health club in Newcraighall, Edinburgh. It is believed he was deliberately targeted by a hitman. He was under armed police guard in hospital. He later discharged himself (BBC, 22 October 2010).

David List has been found guilty of committing a bomb hoax, having an imitation gun with intent to commit an offence, criminal damage and breaching a restraining order. He broke into his former friends' home in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, and told police he had booby trapped the property with explosives at the beginning of a litany of abuse. After being refused entry to the house in April 2010 when his former friend saw a gun List broke in again and locked himself inside. A replica Browning pistol was found at his home in West Ealing, west London, after police raided it. He is due to be sentenced in December.

A 12-year-old boy took pot shots with a ball-bearing gun at fellow students at a school in Taunton, Somerset. He hurt at least one other child who suffered bruising and reddening of the skin.

A pub in Croydon, south London, has been shut down after drugs, stolen drink and a stun gun were found in it. The pub had been linked to recent burglaries.

Henrijs Rudups from March, Cambridgeshire, has pleaded guilty to a charge of illegally importing ammunition. He was stopped at the Port of Dover in October 2009 and when asked if he was carrying anything illegal freely produced a box from under his seat which contained a blank firing pistol and two rounds of CN Mace gas cartridges. He said he had no idea that he could not bring them into the UK. He has been jailed for one year.
