A 19-year-old man has been shot in the eye with an air rifle in an incident a house in Alsager, Staffordshire. A man was arrested on suspicion of assault, and an 18-year-old man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice by removing the firearm. All three were later bailed but the victim was reported to still be in 'critical condition'.

Three teenagers were threatened by a group of armed robbers in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Three men wearing balaclavas and gloves forced the victims to get out of their car and hand over cash and mobile phones using a silver handgun and a knife. The victims were shaken but unhurt.

Christopher Appleby Hardy has been jailed for 4 years for two armed robberies at bookmakers in Whitehaven, Cumbria. In the first robbery, he used a screwdriver to steal £260 from two female members of staff. Later that day he stole £200 by intimating he had a gun and threatening to shoot workers in the head.

Christian Andrews has been given a 10-month suspended sentence for possessing a stun gun at his home in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The sentence was suspended because of evidence that Andrews may have been set up and his full co-operation with police.

Paul Smith has been placed under a 15-month supervision order and a 10 year Anti-Social Behaviour Order for collecting and detonating explosive materials at his home in Hull, East Yorkshire. He has also been ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation programme and do 150 hours unpaid work. Police responding to complaints found pipe-bombs and other electrical and chemical bomb-making components as well as shotgun cartridges, bullets and gunpowder and an Army bomb disposal unit was required to make the property safe. Smith, who told officers he bought the materials for his hobby on the Internet, also pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug.

Andrew Jones has been convicted of a total of seven drugs and firearms offences. Police recovered a self-loading gas pistol, designed to fire tear gas or blank rounds, and 7 CS and pepper gas cartridges at his home in Dundee. The weapon was found during a raid in which officers uncovered up to £24,000 worth of cannabis plants and £400 worth of a cocaine-like drug MEC. He was later jailed for six and a half years for the offences (STV, 4 October 2012).

Gordon Duncan Muir has been jailed for 26 weeks for shooting a man in the back with an air rifle. Muir armed himself with the gun and a knife after finding the victim's dogs on his property in Great Harwood, Lancashire. He threatened to shoot the victim, with whom he reportedly had an ongoing dispute about the animals, and shot him as he ran away. Muir later beat up his girlfriend's ex-partner and was found to be carrying a knife when he was arrested.
