Gun Incidents

The Infer Trust makes every effort to record and categorise the firearms incidents reported in the UK but we recognise that it is not a complete record.

If you are aware of a gun incident which is not listed please notify us.  You can do this by either sending us the link for an on line report, or a hard copy of a press article to our address.

Tony Perrin has been jailed for four months after pleading guilty to posting a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character contrary to the Communications Act 2003 from his home in Norbury, south London. After the murder of a soldier in Woolwich, Perrin posted a picture of himself on social media site Facebook in which he was wearing a balaclava and pointing an imitation gun at the camera. In the post he threatened, "I will do a lot worse than what took place yesterday and I have like minded people behind me" and incited others to also commit "acts of insane violence" and take "revenge" on Muslims.

2013/6/11 The Telegraph

Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has reported that only a few police forces in England and Wales are adequately updating records of firearms and ammunition found at crime scenes in the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (Nabis) database. In one case a very serious gun incident was not entered into the database for over four months. In 2011/12, two-thirds of all police forces did not enter any details about gun crimes into Nabis, claiming that this was duplicating other records. The report suggested that a lack of proper, consistent records meant that "forensic opportunities are being missed”.
