Tim Marter, a Bristol magistrate and North Somerset Conservative councillor, has been fined £300 for breaching the terms of his firearms licence at his home in Banwell, Somerset. Police discovered that he had 110 rounds more ammunition than he was allowed according to the terms of his licence when they visited his property. He claimed to have been keeping the ammunition in his firearms cabinet as a favour for someone else but pleaded guilty to the firearms offence and said he would step down from his position.

Ali Lamnouoir has been jailed for 11 years for possessing an arsenal of guns and ammunition with intent to endanger life at a storage container in Dollis Hill, west London. Police recovered a MG4A5 assault rifle, a Biakal handgun, a silencer, 298 rounds of ammunition and two clips for the assault rifle, and three rounds ammunition and one clip for the handgun, and Lamnouoir was arrested.

A man with an imitation firearm used it to threaten children as they were playing in a park in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Police were called to the scene and the 31-year-old fled on foot, but was later arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Seventeen gulls have been brought into a wildlife rescue centre after a cull of herring gulls was authorised in Carlisle, Cumbria. Staff at the centre suggested that the birds, four of whom died, may have been shot by people of other than those granted licences to carry out the cull. Many of the birds sustained permanently disabling injuries.

Two herring gulls were found dead and one badly injured after they were shot with an airgun on a street in Barrow, Cumbria. They were found surrounded by airgun pellets and pieces of bread and were thought to have been purposefully lured to the area so they could be shot at. The surviving gull was found to have two pellets in his chest and was given treatment for his injuries.


2013/6/20 Manchester Evening News

Nicholas Hinds has been jailed for 10 years after using an imitation shotgun in two separate robberies of convenience stores in Manchester. He used a roll of cardboard hidden in a plastic bag to simulate a shotgun and escaped with cash, but after the second attack police followed him to his home and found him on the toilet with the £130 he had stolen up his bottom.

Michael Holmes and his stepfather George Watson have been acquitted of charges of beating another man and his 15-year-old son in a fight reported to have involved knives, a baseball bat, an imitation firearm and a single-barrelled shotgun at a pub in West Cornforth, County Durham. The victim had his head cracked open and his right hand crushed during the incident, but the charges against Holmes and Watson were dropped when he decided not to pursue the case because of an alleged out-of-court resolution between the two families involved.

Firearms officers were deployed after reports of a man brandishing a gun in the centre of Gloucester. Police arrested two people, and charged a 25-year-old man with making threats to kill and with a public order offence of causing alarm and distress.

Volunteers from the Surrey Wildlife Trust recovered a suspected World War II revolver while excavating some concrete structures that were discovered on the common in Cobham, Surrey.


2013/6/19 Nottingham Post

Anthony Smith has been given a 18-month suspended sentence with supervision and nine months of drug rehabilitation for illegally looking after a starting pistol for other people at a flat in Nottingham. Police discovered the gun, two cartridges and blanks in a jacket pocket during a search of the property and Smith was arrested.
