Alex Meehan, aged 18, has been jailed for five years after admitting possession of a prohibited firearm. When police called at his address in response to reports of a domestic disturbance, Meehan said he did not mind them looking around the house to see if anyone else was home. During this search, an officer discovered a fully-automatic assault rifle in a bedroom, only partially concealed by a pillow. Following his arrest, Meehan claimed to have come across the firearm at a park in Liverpool, Merseyside and had picked it up and taken it home. Police experts said the rifle was in full working order but no link to any firearms discharges was found, nor did DNA or fingerprints link the weapon to other criminals.
