Summary:

Police shot dead a 28-year-old man near the junction of a busy motorway during a planned operation in an investigation into the illegal possession of a firearm in Ainley Top, West Yorkshire. Officers boxed in the man’s car on the motorway slip road and fired at least three shots through his windscreen which left him dead. Police made three arrests at the scene, and also found a firearm in the victim’s car. Officers also arrested two other people when they stopped another vehicle in Bradford, West Yorkshire in connection with the incident. The victim’s house was reportedly targeted in a drive-by shooting last year, and he was fired at with a shotgun a few years prior. He was also accused of being involved in a drive-by shooting in 2009, but was acquitted due to a lack of evidence. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has begun an investigation into what was the fifth fatal shooting of a person by police in England in the last nine months.
