Peter Lines pretended to have a gun when he robbed a building society branch in Bexhill, Sussex, of £2000. The weapon was a can of deodorant covered with a sock. He admitted charges of robbery and possessing an imitation firearm and was given an indeterminate prison sentence for public protection.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg in Croxteth, Liverpool. His injuries are not life-threatening. Four teenagers, aged between 15 and 19 and an older man have been arrested and a firearm has been recovered.

Staff at a bar in Withington, Manchester, were threatened with shotguns during a robbery. Three men armed with two shotguns and a knife stole money and personal items. One man has admitted two counts of robbery and possessing an imitation firearm and been jailed (see December 2009 Incidents).

Andrew Bennett has appeared in court after an attack on his mother at their home in Fareham, Hampshire. The attack took place when he was under considerable strain after he had been arrested by the police for carrying a ball-bearing gun, as a result of which he had been expelled from college.
