The Infer Trust makes every effort to record and categorise the firearms incidents reported in the UK but we recognise that it is not a complete record.

2013/1/30 Boston Standard

Firearms officers were dispatched after receiving reports of two people firing a gun in a park in Boston, Lincolnshire. Police unsuccessfully searched the area and reported to have been looking for two teenagers with an air rifle who they believed to have fled the scene.


2013/1/30 Wales Online

Firearms officers shot an aggressive dog after they were called to reports of a stray that was attacking another dog and its owners in Hirwaun, Mid Glamorgan. They are reported to have attempted to contain the animal and to have shot it three times when it attacked them.

Barach Bandavad has been jailed for a minimum of 22 years for the murder of the 58-year-old step-mother of his ex-girlfriend in a car outside his home in Horfield, Bristol. He threatened the victim and her husband with a gun and two knives when they went to collect their daughter's belongings after she had ended her relationship with Bandavad. He slashed the victim's throat in the back seat of the car after her husband fled and made an unsuccessful attempt to torch the vehicle and dispose of bloodstained items before contacting police to report that an accident had happened in which the victim had been killed.

Vincent Ashman has been jailed for a minimum of 28 years for the murder of a man at a nightclub in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. He shot the victim six times during an argument and although the victim was taken to hospital he died shortly afterwards. The club was closed after the shooting and has never been reopened.

Christina Richards has been handed a 12-month community order with supervision and been order to pay £100 compensation and £85 court costs after she hit and used a BB gun shoot a child who had accidentally hit her son in the face with a foam pellet in Gorseinon, West Glamorgan. She shot the child in the arm, and slapped him after he replied abusively when confronted about hitting her son with the toy pellet. The victim was left with a 10cm mark on his body and taken to hospital for a check up.

A university student was hit in the head with a gun during a burglary at a residential property in Egham, Surrey. Three men armed with a knife and a handgun broke into the property, threatened and assaulted the victim. They then used the gun to force the victim's housemates to the ground as they met them returning to the property, before escaping with a laptop, a passport and jewellery. The first victim was taken to hospital for a check-up. Police have not linked the attack to recent muggings of students in the area.

A gun was reportedly brandished during a fight between up to 13 men outside a pub in Blackburn, Lancashire. Armed police were deployed but could not locate the group, which police believed to be comprised of two rival gangs engaged in a pre-arranged fight to settle a previous dispute. Three men were arrested on suspicion of affray but no firearm has been recovered. Following this and other incidents involving dangerous weapons, police launched a weapons amnesty in an attempt to reduce the number of weapons being carried by resident of the town (Lancashire Telegraph, 5 February 2013).


2013/1/29 Manchester Gazette

A man armed with gun has attempted to rob a betting shop in Salford, Greater Manchester. He entered the premises holding the gun, and staff were able to go to the back of the shop and call the police, causing the robber to escape in a getaway car. Police have appealed for information.



2013/1/29 Watch Pro

Two female employees were threatened by two masked robbers brandishing shotguns and hammers at a pawnbroker in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The pair escaped with a number of Rolex watches. No injuries were reported.


2013/1/29 Daventry Express

A small metal starting pistol, blank pellets and and number of other items have been stolen from a car parked in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. Police have appealed for information.
