Summary:

David Scurfield, 33, and Billy McColl, now 20, have been jailed for nine years and ten years, respectively, for their involvement in the torture of two men in St Helens, Merseyside, while Shawn O'Malley,33, received eighteen years for the same incident and for his involvement In a second shooting in Bolton. In September last year, two men working at a cannabis farm were interrogated by O’Malley after some of the drug was reportedly stolen. O’Malley pointed an imitation gun at the victims, who were also tied up and beaten with weapons including a sledgehammer, claw hammer, metal wrench and pick axe. McColl then threatened to pour acid on them and stubbed out a cigarette in an open wound on one of victims. After hours of torture, the men were released by their co-workers and taken to hospital with injuries including broken bones. All three defendants admitted false imprisonment and grievous bodily harm with intent, while McColl was also sentenced for possession of a prohibited firearm, a BBM Olympic 38 blank-firing pistol that police saw him throw from a bedroom window when they raided his home. The court heard, however, that there was no evidence that this had been used in the attack. O’Malley was also sentenced for a separate offence after he tried to frame a man for a shooting in Bolton by planting a self-loading pistol in his car. In relation to this incident, he admitted conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
