A dog walker found a cat's body hanging on a tree near Oakley, Hampshire. A local vet concluded that the cat had probably died instantly after being shot through the neck with a suspected high-powered rifle. The cat’s owner reported the shooting to the police but was told it was a closed case, the incident having taken place “in an isolated location with no prospect of CCTV or description of any suspect”.
