After pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, Kgotso Mokgohloa, aged 37, was sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a rehabilitation activity requirement. In September this year, Mokgohloa remonstrated with two boys who had racially abused a young girl on a street in Bradford, West Yorkshire. After Mokgohloa told them off, the boys repeatedly abused him, returning to his house several times to shout racist comments. On one of these occasions, Mokgohloa shot one of the boys in the back of the head with a BB gun as he cycled away. The victim was treated in hospital, where the pellet had to be removed. On sentencing, the Judge said that Mokgohloa had been provoked and had experienced “a fairly catastrophic loss of control” when he fired the gun. |
