Yusuf Ahmed has been sentenced to thirteen years in prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, while Ibrahim Cabdulgadir received nine-and-a-half years for possession of a firearm and ammunition. Ahmed was convicted and sentenced in his absence after he fled during his trial. Ahmed and Cabdulgadir were in a vehicle stopped by police officers in Walthamstow, East London in March 2018, from which officers retrieved a loaded handgun containing two rounds of modified ammunition that enabled live rounds to be fired. Forensic testing revealed Ahmed’s DNA on the firearm and the bags wrapped around it, as well as on the ammunition inside the magazine of the gun. The court heard that Ahmed was unable to explain why his DNA was on the weaponry and that he had tried to buy ammunition from gun shops three times. |
