Daniel Hannam, aged 33, has been handed a 24-year prison sentence after being found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and admitting attempted kidnap, making use of a firearm with intent to resist arrest, possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a firearm when prohibited, robbery, and attempted burglary. In January this year, Hannam bought a sawn-off shotgun and used it to threaten two workers at a shop. Five days later, he fired the shotgun twice at the door of another shop and later attempted to kidnap a motorist, firing the gun again as the driver fled. Later the same evening, Hannam discharged the shotgun from a window at his girlfriend’s house in Castle Cary, Somerset after armed police officers surrounded the property; some of the pellets landed on an armed response vehicle parked outside but no one was injured. Hannam gave himself up after a two-hour stand-off. |
