Summary:

A jury delivered a unanimous conclusion of suicide after an inquest into the death of a 35-year-old man who shot himself at his home in Hungerford, Shropshire in December last year. The jury heard that armed police were deployed after the man’s partner reported his threats to kill himself. The attending officers felt they were making progress before the man took his own life; however, the victim’s family had some concerns about the actions of officers on the scene. The Area Commander said: “The officers who were involved did all they could in difficult circumstances trying to persuade him to put his gun down. The independent IPCC investigation found that officers had followed national guidance and considered the safety of everyone who was there that night."
